N. Korea's KIM inspects Sinuiju greenhouse complex

Sunday, May 31, 2026-North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has inspected the newly developed Sinuiju greenhouse complex, emphasizing the country’s push to strengthen domestic food production amid ongoing economic pressures and limited international trade.

State media reported that the visit focused on assessing agricultural output, construction progress, and the role of modernized farming facilities in improving food security.

The Sinuiju greenhouse project is part of a broader national strategy to expand controlled-environment agriculture, allowing year-round crop production regardless of weather conditions.

Officials showcased large-scale greenhouse structures designed to boost vegetable yields and reduce reliance on imports. Kim reportedly stressed the importance of efficiency, scientific farming methods, and disciplined management to maximize output from the facility.

Analysts say the inspection highlights North Korea’s continued focus on self-reliance in food production as sanctions and economic constraints persist.

By investing in greenhouse agriculture and state-led farming modernization, the leadership aims to stabilize food supplies while reinforcing its broader policy of economic resilience. The project also serves as a political signal of progress, projecting development achievements to domestic and international audiences.
