Sunday, September 20, 2026 - Avery, known online as Avery the Poke Kid, has died at the age of 12 following a nearly eight-year battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.
His parents, Christian Garcia and Rebecca Rosa-Valentin, confirmed his death on September 19, saying they had taken him to hospital for what they believed would be a routine visit before his condition suddenly deteriorated. Avery had recently entered hospice care after doctors found extensive progression of his illness.
The young creator became widely known for his love of Pokémon cards and for sharing his journey with hundreds of thousands of followers. Despite undergoing years of treatment, surgeries and hospital visits, Avery continued creating content and connecting with the Pokémon community.
Earlier this month, supporters helped him achieve one of his biggest dreams when he reached 100,000 YouTube subscribers and received his Silver Play Button. His online following had since grown to more than 140,000 subscribers.
In their heartbreaking tribute, Avery’s parents said their family held him in their arms in one of his favourite places at the hospital, a rooftop garden, during his final moments. They thanked the people who had watched his videos, supported his dreams and brought him happiness throughout his illness, while asking for privacy as they began to grieve.
Avery’s story has since prompted an outpouring of tributes from the Pokémon community, with fans remembering the young creator for the joy he brought to others despite the challenges he faced.
