Five dead in Russian attacks on Ukraine's southern Kherson region

Friday, June 5, 2026- Russian bombardment of Ukraine’s southern Kherson region has escalated sharply, leaving five civilians dead in three separate strikes on Friday, authorities reported in urgent updates.

Regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed that a strike on a residential district of Kherson city killed three elderly residents, whose bodies were recovered from damaged homes.

Another attack hit a petrol station north of the city, killing one person and injuring seven others, while an evening drone strike in a nearby village claimed the life of a fifth victim.

The attacks underscore the relentless pressure Russian forces continue to exert on Ukrainian-held territory, even as frontline control remains contested and unpredictable.

Kherson has become one of the most heavily targeted areas in the south due to its strategic location and symbolic importance, with civilian infrastructure repeatedly struck. The petrol station hit Friday was crowded at the time of the strike, turning everyday life into a life-threatening gamble for local residents.

These incidents are part of a broader pattern of intensified hostilities across Ukraine, where missile and drone attacks on civilian sites have surged in recent weeks.

Ukrainian officials continue to appeal for more robust air defense systems from Western partners, warning that without them, more lives will be lost and communities shattered. The need for urgent international support remains clear as the conflict enters yet another violent chapter.
