Monday, June 8, 2026- Yemen’s Houthi movement has launched fresh attacks toward Israel while announcing a ban on Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea, marking a further escalation in regional maritime and military tensions.
The group said it carried out missile and drone operations aimed at Israeli territory, framing the actions as retaliation for ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and wider regional strikes.
Alongside the attacks, Houthi officials declared that Israeli vessels, or ships linked to Israel, will be barred from passing through key Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab routes, a critical global shipping corridor.
The announcement raises immediate concerns for international trade, as the Red Sea is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, carrying significant volumes of energy supplies and commercial cargo.
Israel has not yet issued a detailed response to the latest claims, but in previous incidents it has relied on air defense systems and regional coordination with allies to intercept long-range projectiles.
The latest developments add to an already volatile regional landscape, where maritime security in the Red Sea has become increasingly fragile amid repeated cross-border attacks and retaliatory strikes.
