Iranian missiles trigger sirens across central, southern Israel

Monday, June 8, 2026- Air raid sirens sounded across central and southern Israel after the Israeli military detected incoming missile launches, with authorities confirming the activation of national air defense systems as multiple projectiles were intercepted.

The alerts sent millions of residents rushing into shelters as explosions were reported in the sky during interception attempts.

The missile barrage is part of a wider escalation involving direct exchanges between Iran and Israel, following recent Israeli strikes on Iranian-linked targets and regional proxy positions.

Iranian officials and the IRGC have claimed responsibility for coordinated attacks aimed at Israeli military infrastructure, while Israel has responded with retaliatory strikes on sites inside Iran, further widening the conflict across multiple fronts.

Despite the intensity of the attack, Israeli defense systems reportedly intercepted most incoming missiles, limiting casualties on the ground.

However, the repeated sirens and ongoing launches underscore a rapidly escalating regional confrontation, with fears growing that continued retaliation could pull in additional actors across the Middle East and deepen instability.
