Israel temporarily closes its airspace after intercepting missile from Yemen

Monday, June 8, 2026- Israeli authorities temporarily shut the country’s airspace on Monday after the military intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen, according to official statements and Israeli media reports.

The closure came amid a sharp escalation in regional hostilities, with air-raid sirens sounding across the greater Tel Aviv area and parts of central and southern Israel as the threat was detected.

The missile, said to have been fired by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces, was detected approaching Israeli territory and was successfully taken down by Israel’s air defence systems prompting the civilian airspace shutdown as a precaution while the incident unfolded.

This incident occurred against a backdrop of intensified exchanges of fire between Israel and Iran, including Iranian missile barrages and subsequent Israeli strikes on targets in Iran and Lebanon, signaling a notable escalation in the broader Middle East conflict.
