Tuesday, September 22, 2026 - Egypt says the Suez Canal is operating normally, offering fresh reassurance to global shipping companies as concerns over regional maritime security continue.
Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie said navigation is regular, services are operating efficiently and canal pilots remain fully prepared.
The latest figures point to a strong recovery in traffic. In August, 1,358 vessels passed through the canal, carrying 68.3 million tons of net cargo and generating $567.1 million in revenue.
Compared with August 2025, vessel numbers rose 27%, tonnage increased 51.1% and revenues climbed 56.7%.
The development comes as renewed tensions around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait continue to raise concerns for global supply chains. Egypt's latest message is clear: the Suez Canal remains open and operational, while shipping activity is showing signs of recovery.
With major carriers reassessing routes, the canal's ability to maintain reliable traffic will remain closely watched by businesses and global markets.
