Saturday, September 25, 2026 - Rob Lowe is looking back on the early years of his Hollywood career with a strong sense of nostalgia, calling the 1980s an “incredible time” to be famous, single and working in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on the Chicks in the Office podcast on September 23, the 62-year-old actor said he would not trade that period of his life for anything.
Lowe said celebrity life was different before social media and smartphones transformed how stars interacted with the public.
He recalled making plans without being able to instantly contact friends and said the uncertainty created an element of excitement. For Lowe, the lack of constant cameras and online scrutiny made socializing and navigating fame feel more private than it does today.
The actor also reflected on the pressure facing young celebrities now, saying fame can be a burden for people who experience it in their early 20s. Lowe became widely known through films including The Outsiders and St. Elmo’s Fire before marrying Sheryl Berkoff in 1991.
His latest comments are putting renewed attention on the dramatic changes in celebrity culture between his breakthrough years and the social-media era.
