Monday, June 8, 2026- At least eight people have been killed and 13 others wounded after Israeli airstrikes hit the southern suburbs of Beirut and areas in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency and health authorities.
The strikes struck two residential apartment buildings in the Hawta al-Ghadir area of Beirut’s southern suburbs, a densely populated civilian district also known as Dahiyeh causing multiple casualties.
The Israeli military said it targeted **infrastructure linked to Hezbollah in the Beirut suburbs in response to what it described as recent rocket fire into northern Israel, stating the strikes were aimed at militant infrastructure rather than civilian areas. Israeli officials also acknowledged informing U.S. counterparts before launching the attacks.
In separate strikes the same day, six people were killed and two wounded in air raids on southern Lebanese villages in the Nabatieh region, reflecting continued hostilities across the border despite recent attempts at a ceasefire.
Lebanese rescue and health services have been stretched by the frequency of such strikes, and national authorities say that civilian populations in Beirut and southern Lebanon continue to be at risk as the conflict persists.
